Consortium - University of Kuopio and Savonia University of applied sciences
 

The objective of the consortium project is to find out possibilities to intensify the cooperation between these two institutions to form a consortium. In consortium institutes are able to combine their resources and increase efficiency in mutually beneficial way and at the same time strenghten their activities and sharpen their profile.

The parties signed agreement of the consortium cooperation on 24th of November 2005. For the development of consortium institutes have received a special funding from the ministry of Education for 2006-2008.

Objectives of consortium:

• to improve the quality of the activities of both institutions
• to contribute the development and diversification of the quality of the activities
• to intensify the use of the resources of both institutions by distribution of work and cooperation
• to increase interaction between personnel and students and the use of common human resources
• to develop teaching and research and development the way that gives the best possible support for the needs of local enterprises, public sector and whole society
• to promote the higher education in Northern Savo and its attraction both nationally and internationally
• to create concrete ways of action and models for the cooperation
• the development of the joint campus

Organization

Consortium project is lead by a leading group. The members of the leading group are:

• University of Kuopio: rector, one professor, one lecturer
• Savonia university of applied sciences: rector, vice-rector, chairman of the board of the federation of municipalities
• representatives of student unions of both institutions
• project manager of the consortium project
• chairman from business world (Mr. Hannu Isotalo)
   

Consortium has own project group which is responsible for operational activities of the whole project. Primary development of consortium cooperation is done in the special expert groups. There are expert groups in three different fields of cooperation:

• teaching
• research and development
• support services
  • library
  • computer services
  • information and communication technology and web-based pedagogy
  • international services
  • student services
  • career services
